Rocker switches

Post by andy »

After my G5 installation, my anti-collision light rocker switch/breaker wouldn't lock in place in the ON position. A comment on things falling into the open top of these switches caused me to mention the possibility to my A&P. He checked on it but felt that a part of the switch had broken. These switches are no longer manufactured. Maule has now moved to separate toggle switches and circuit breakers. I ordered a 10-amp toggle switch and breaker from Maule. When my A&P took the rocker switch out and turned it over, a small screw dropped out. The switch was good so he re-installed it. The screw had fallen into the open top of the rocker switch and was blocking it from latching in the ON position. I'm considering putting a piece of electrical tape over the tops of this bank of rocker switches to prevent that from happening again. My A&P thought it would be a good idea. It's difficult to work under the panel with the seats in place but it's a lot of work to remove and re-install the seat. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get a piece of tape over the tops of these switches with all the wires getting in the way.
